Colleges That Offer Military History Majors In The Midwest

Military historians study more than just the art of war.

A degree in military history is available at several schools across the Midwest, and can be tailored to a specific focus. Generally, a program in military history will study not just war, but economics, sociology and territorial expansion throughout history. A broad spectrum of time periods, from ancient Rome to modern times will be covered and explain governments, military theory, political science and battle narratives. Students may focus on historical figures and their impact on the world as well.

University of Michigan- Ann Arbor

The University of Michigan's history department features a flexible program that can be tailored to one of several concentrations, including a degree in military history. The department employs eighty faculty members, all of whom are seasoned professors with different specialties among them. Students interested in a history major can arrange a concentration advising appointment which will help outline necessary courses and appropriate electives. Graduates with a Master's degree may go on to careers within the government, as part of the U.S. military, or as an archivist in a military museum. Students of the program must complete degree-specific courses as well as the university's general education credits, composed of classes from all aspects of the catalog.
