Technical colleges offer undergraduate and graduate students the chance to pursue a number of different engineering, technical, and science-based degrees. Undergraduate students typically receive a bachelor of science, while graduate students earn a master's degree in their chosen area of concentration and study. Massachusetts Institute of Technology
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) was included on a 2009 US News & World Report list as the number one technical school in the world. MIT is comprised of six separate schools: the School of Architecture and Planning; the School of Engineering; the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences; the Sloan School of Management; the School of Science; and the Whitaker College of Health Sciences and Technology. In addition, a program in Oceanography and Applied Ocean Science and Engineering is available to students. As of the fall of 2009, there were approximately 4,200 undergraduate and 6,150 graduate students enrolled at MIT.

California Institute of Technology
Located in Pasadena, California, the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) sits on a 124-acre campus, approximately 10 miles away from the Los Angeles Civic Center. There are six academic divisions at Caltech: Biology; Chemistry and Chemical Engineering; Engineering and Applied Science; Geological and Planetary Sciences; Humanities and Social Sciences; and Physics, Mathematics, and Astronomy. Various concentrations are available under each of these general categories. As of the fall of 2009, 951 undergraduate and 1,179 graduate students were enrolled at Caltech. Each year, Caltech receives $270 million in sponsored research funding; because of this generous sponsorship, the school is one of the top research institutes in the nation, boasting twice as many sponsored research expenditures per undergraduate as any other technical school in America.

Georgia Institute of Technology
Georgia Institute of Technology, located in central Atlanta, is home to a combined undergraduate and graduate body of approximately 20,000 students, as of the fall of 2009. The six schools at GA Tech are the College of Architecture, the College of Computing, the College of Engineering, the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts, the College of Management, and the College of Sciences. Students can pursue degrees in 36 different undergraduate majors, 47 master's programs and 30 doctoral programs. In addition, GA Tech has been accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and holds the number 12 spot on US News & World Report's 2009 list of the world's top engineering schools.
