The website Indicareer.com lists 272 civil engineering colleges in India. A number of these colleges have large campuses and state-of-the-art laboratories, offer various engineering degrees, and continually take action to improve their standards. Earning a civil engineering degree in most of Indian colleges takes at least four years of study.
Government Engineering College Thrissur
Affiliated with the University of Calcutta, the Government Engineering College in Thrissur started in 1957. Its campus is on 75 acres in Ramavarmapuram, less than 3 miles from the Thrissur railway station. It offers a Bachelor of Technology in civil, mechanical, chemical and production engineering, and in electronics and communications engineering. Only 60 students were part of the department of civil engineering when it started in 1958. This department now accommodates more than 400 students. The department has well-equipped laboratories in disciplines such as materials testing, geo-technical, environmental, transportation and surveying.

Mahatma Gandhi Mission's College of Engineering & Technology
Located at the junction of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the Sion-Panvel Highway, this institution is on a campus of more than 8 hectares. In existence for more than 25 years, this college affiliated with the University of Mumbai, offers degree courses in electronics and telecommunications, computers, information technology, civil, chemical, biotechnology and biomedical engineering. All courses have approval of the All India Council For Technical Education (AICTE) of the Government of India. The department of civil engineering has the following laboratories: concrete technology, engineering mechanics, environment engineering, fluid mechanics, geology, geotechnical engineering, strength of materials, survey and transportation engineering.

RV College of Engineering
Established in 1963 with three engineering departments, the RV College of Engineering now offers 12 undergraduate engineering programs, 16 master's degree programs and doctoral studies. It is on a 52-acre campus, 6 miles from Bangalore City, India's Silicon Valley. A self-financing engineering institute, it has an annual engineering enrollment of more than 1,200 students. RV has a highly qualified and dedicated faculty, and has collaborative arrangements with universities in the United States, Germany, France and Australia. The department of civil engineering has state-of-the-art laboratory and infrastructure facilities in a total floor area of 1,837 square meters. Four of the 20 faculty members have doctorate degrees.
