Many summer programs offer access to onsite libraries.
College students often need to participate in academic endeavors during the summer months to complete their course of study in a timely manner. Others enjoy the rigor of an academic program during the summer to keep their minds active. To satisfy this educational thirst, as well as to fulfill course requirements, universities around the United States offer college students specialized summer programs to further their education.
Boston University
Boston University offers summer music courses for those focused on applied music, music theory, music education and a number of other music studies. Students have the choice between many courses, such as jazz music, group guitar, West African music drumming, policy research in music education, and music of the Rolling Stones. Boston University gives the choice of two different summer sessions or a full 12-week session. As of 2010, tuition for undergraduate students is $530 per credit. Although each credit comes from a college course, credit transfer to other universities will depend on the academic year institution's policy.

Stanford University
Stanford University offers both an 8-week session and a 10-week session. Students must be at least 18-years-old and already have completed some college courses. Stanford states that its summer classes "feature open enrollment, accessible instructors, small classes, a diverse student body and a stunning campus." Courses offered focus on the schools of earth sciences, engineering, and humanities and sciences. Those pursuing an education in physics have the option of a course sequence specifically geared toward their area of study. Stanford states that "credit earned may be eligible for transfer to another college or university."

Mayo Clinic
The Mayo Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program (SURF) is sponsored by Mayo Graduate School. SURF attendees have the benefit of learning from Mayo Clinic faculty as well as graduate and medical students willing to assist those wanting to learn. Students have access to the clinic's facilities and work closely with internationally known scientists. Attendees work on their own small research projects or can join in on an ongoing project, as well as partake in a weekly seminar series regarding progressing research ideas. Ninety to 100 students are accepted each year to study in Rochester, Minnesota. Credit eligibility depends on student's academic year institution's policy.

University of Michigan
The University of Michigan's Geological Sciences program provides college students with the opportunity to study natural science or humanities each summer at Camp Davis in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. At the Rocky Mountain Field Station, students take courses in introductory geology, ecosystem science, geological mapping, and the history and literature of the west. It is an outdoor classroom surrounded by an extensive ecosystem for studying natural sciences. UM states that it has a student-to-teacher ratio of eight to one, and outdoor activities and recreation are in abundance for all students. The program offers full college courses but cannot guarantee that credits will transfer to the student's home institution.
