New York Science Field Trip Ideas

At several museums in New York, children can get up close and personal with science through hands-on exhibits.


New York is full of kid-friendly science venues that will make your children forget that science is a school subject. Help children's imaginations and creativity blast off with frequent visits to the world famous American Museum of Natural History or the New York Hall of Science. Take your children to one of the special hands-on science venues at the Long Island Science Center for fun they will never forget!


The New York Hall of Science


The New York Hall of Science has more than 450 permanent exhibitions and several temporary exhibits running throughout the year. This fun-filled venue has New York's largest collection of hands-on science exhibits that will get young and old involved and excited about science. Some of the exhibits include creating rivers, learning about the affects of living in outer space, connecting sports and physics, and exploring different molecules and bacteria. As of Summer 2010, the ticket prices range from $8 for students, youth, and seniors to $11 for adults.

American Museum of Natural History


The American Museum of Natural History is not just well known for its impressive exhibits on human history. It has extensive exhibits on earth's natural history. The stunning displays range from unique fossils and geological formations to a planetarium which runs a show about how stars are created. The temporary science exhibits always running at the museum include highlights from recent museum-sponsored expeditions. The museum even holds an IMAX theater which frequently features science films. The museum has a children's website where they constantly post news of special children's science events at the museum. As of Summer 2010, ticket prices range are $9 for children ages 2 to 12 and $16 for adults.

Long Island Science Center


The Long Island Science Center is full of unique activities for children to participate in! The center has continual programs for youth covering almost every branch of the sciences. Not only do they have hands-on exhibits in the museum, but they have summer youth science camps and year-round science presentations and activities.
