Turn A Bottle Of Water Instantly Into Ice

A water bottle can be used to create super-cooled water

Supercooling is a phenomenon that allows for the instant cooling of a liquid past its freezing point, thus allowing it to be "super cooled." This is possible due to the formation of ice requiring nucleation points such as air, impurities in the liquid, or contact with a rough surface. In a closed plastic water bottle it is possible to create these environmental conditions due to pressure. The pressure inside a closed plastic water bottle prevents the air from saturating the water inside. A water bottle also provides a smooth plastic surface that will not prevent ice formation. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Funnel purified water into a plastic water bottle or use the water already present.

2. Fill the plastic bottle up with purified water to a desired level and make sure that the plastic bottle has been already opened.

3. Seal the plastic bottle with its cap and place it inside a freezer or outside if the temperature is below freezing.

4. Remove the water from the freezer or outside carefully after it has cooled below freezing. If you move the water too much it may freeze.

5. Pour the super-cooled water out of the bottle to create a "pouring ice" effect or simply open the bottle or shake it to watch it turn from liquid into solid ice.
