Community Colleges In Midland Tx

Midland colleges offer students diverse fields of study.


With a population of about 100,000 residents, Midland is the midway point between El Paso and Fort Worth and a growing industrial region. Located in Texas' Permian Basin, the area is home to many oil and gas companies that require a diverse work force. Midland's community colleges offer students an opportunity to earn degrees from a certificate of completion to a bachelor's degree, and study academic subjects ranging from aviation to zoology.


Midland College


More than 7,000 students enroll every semester in Midland College's 58 programs. A two-year bachelor's degree is available in applied technology that offers courses in oil industry commerce, public administration and business management, international business and commerce. Associate degrees and certificate of completion degrees are available in many fields including aviation management, health sciences and paralegal, radiography and geology. The campus' 115 acres has a petroleum professional development center, performing arts theater, a field house and an aviation maintenance hangar.


Texas Tech University


Midland College campus is home to the two-year physician assistant program. Since Texas Tech University started the program in 2005, it has a ninety-seven percent graduation rate. Students study numerous subjects including anatomy, pharmacology and medical ethics, pathology and clinical medicine and health-care management. The 125-hour program includes lab work, clinical training and internships. An intense three-year doctor of physical therapy degree is available but it requires a bachelor's degree for admission.


Kaplan University


Kaplan University, a nationwide occupational college system, has a small Midland campus with technical, criminal justice and health-care programs. Students can earn a one-year computer support technician diploma that concentrates on hardware, software and network systems. A student can also earn an electrical technician diploma. A two-year associates degree in criminal justice focuses on areas such as corporate security, airport security and undercover security. The health-care diploma programs include dental assistant, medical assistant and medical office assistant.


Odessa College


Less than 20 miles from Midland, Odessa College offers 46 occupational and technical programs. Odessa College offer five associate's degree programs and two certificate-of-completion programs. Some of the academic areas include agriculture, ranch management, business administration and computer information systems and engineering, geology and geography and nursing. The campus consist of 80 acres with 25 buildings including science and medical laboratories, a 110,000 square foot sports center and a performing arts center.
