Savannah is a port city on Georgia's coast offering educational venues that are perfect for elementary, middle and high school field trips. Field trips give students a chance to actively explore what they learn in class using hands-on methods and show them that their studies in school can relate to more than just their homework.
Savannah History Museum
The Savannah History Museum was established in 1990 and houses over 10,000 artifacts. The artifacts date from 1733 to the present. Some of the items include Revolutionary War memorabilia, women's 19th and 20th century fashion, weapons and military regalia. Students can enjoy the film "Savannah the Survivor" after the tour. The museum is located inside the old Georgia Railway passenger shed.

Savannah Children's Theatre
According to its mission statement, the Savannah Children's Theatre was created to "inspire, educate and entertain children." Children enjoy educational musicals in which audience participation is encouraged. Each musical lasts one hour and students are also led on tours of the theatre. The presentations are aligned to national curriculum standards in history, literature, science and social studies. Some of the titles are "The Thirteen Colonies," "Aseop's Fables," "Geology Rocks," and "Dude, Where's My Lungs?"

Savannah Safari
Students take a safari tour through Savannah searching for "architectural animals in buildings and gardens." Tours begin at Chippewa Square and last for one and a half hours. Participants are given puzzles to solve, a pen and a Safari book for the hike. This walking adventure allows students to learn about the architectural history of Savannah.

Oatland Island Wildlife Center
Students can discover over 40 hands-on activities at the Oatland Island Wildlife Center. There are programs for prekindergarten through high school. The center offers guided tours, marsh ecology, labs and animal presentations. The variety of animals at this facility includes predators, wilderness animals and farm animals. Each program is coordinated with the Georgia Performance Standards.

Marine Education Center
The University of Georgia's Marine Education Center leads students on a one-hour journey to see coastal marine animals, enjoy activities and play fish games. In the lab, visitors explore invertebrates and sea bottom dwelling animals. Students use microscopes to identify animal species. Students are then led on a nature hike and enjoy a picnic lunch.
