From medical assistant to hospital manager, there is always room to advance within a facility. It is important to research all the job options for this career to figure out which one is best for you.
Hospital Manager
The manager of a hospital is responsible for most, if not all, of the executive duties and makes an average of $47,535 per year. They help plan and coordinate all services of the hospital. The hospital manager is supervisor to physicians, health information technicians, nursing staff, as well any other staff members of the hospital. Financial duties are also the responsibility of the hospital manager. Even after graduating college, a hospital manager will have to continue education by attending conventions and evaluations because health care is constantly coming up with new technology every day.
Hospita Admitting Clerk
The hospital admitting clerk is in charge of interviewing new patients and enters all necessary information required for admission into the hospital, such as name, address, age, insurance and persons to notify in case of an emergency. Their duty is to explain all hospital regulations to patients and their families, including visiting hours and payment of accounts. Sometimes the clerk will also be needed to escort a patient into the assigned room or ward.
Medical Assistant
Medical assistants work in doctor’s offices, clinics and hospitals and make an average of $24,610 per year. They aid physicians by completing administrative and basic tasks to help everything run smoothing. Depending on the office, some medical assistants help with patient and lab work only. In other offices the medical assistants do all the records, bookkeeping and secretary duties, such as answering the phone and scheduling appointments. Medical assistants may also be in charge of buying supplies and maintaining equipment and furniture as well acting as the office managers.
Hospital Administrator
A hospital administrator works with the hospital manager to help oversee hospital departments as well as other related medical facilities. These facilities may include outpatient clinics, hospice services, or drug or alcohol abuse treatment centers. Administrators also have the responsibility to evaluate existing employees as well as recruiting and hiring new employees, such as doctors, nurses, interns, and assistant administrators. The hospital administrator is literally the heart of the hospital because their job is to help all departments of the hospital work together as a whole team, and not just individual parts. The salary for a hospital administrator usually depends on how many physicians are practicing at the hospital.
