Careers With Ocean Animals

Careers that can be pursued by those who love ocean animals are not plentiful. Below are a few interesting jobs that involve interaction with aquatic animals.

Marine Biologists

These scientists are in charge of examining and observing animals in their natural habitats. They use the findings of their studies to compile statistics about such issues as environmental effects on animals, animal populations and diseases associated with ocean specimens.

Aquarists

Aquarists take care of animals on display at aquariums. They are responsible for the upkeep of exhibits and making sure that the ocean animals are living in a healthy, safe environment.

Animal Trainers

Perhaps the closest relationship one can have with an ocean animal is to be a trainer for dolphins, whales or seals at theme parks such as Sea World. The trusting relationship a trainer builds with his animals can be amazing to watch.

Staff Veterinarians

These workers are responsible for the health of the animals at aquariums and other large venues such as Sea World. They diagnose and treat any erratic behavior that may be occurring with the ocean animals, and perform medical procedures when necessary.

Scuba Diver Instructors

Qualified instructors teach people the rules and regulations of scuba diving through various certification courses. Besides instruction, they take others on a journey underwater to observe the beauty of the depths of the ocean. While scuba diving, people often come face to face with colorful fish, turtles, sharks and other sea life.

Commercial Fishermen

Fishermen spend long hours gathering up tuna, lobster, shrimp, crab, cod, squid and other aquatic animals under sometimes very dangerous weather conditions. Forbes.com listed commercial fishing as the most dangerous job in America in 2008.
