Community colleges are post-secondary, two-year colleges that offer program certificates, diplomas and/or associate's degrees. Community colleges tend to focus on training and development in specific career areas. Graduates of community colleges either enter the job market or go on to four-year universities. The community colleges in the Duluth, Minnesota, area offer standard and unique programs.
Lake Superior College
Lake Superior College in Duluth has a wooded, lake-view campus and offers certificates, diplomas and associate's degrees in business, computer science, health care, public safety, trade and industry and transportation. The school also has a variety of opportunities for participation in student activities and clubs, which include sports, fine arts and foreign languages. Non-credit and continuing education classes are also available.

Fond Du Lac Community College
Fond Du Lac Community College is 20 miles west of Duluth in Cloquet. Fond Du Lac Community College is the only two-year college in the United States that is both a tribal and a state school. The school offers certificates, diplomas and associate's degrees in business, computer sciences, human services, law enforcement, liberal arts, American Indian studies and environmental sciences. The school has a bucolic campus surrounded by pine forests as well as a thriving athletic program with football, softball, volleyball and basketball teams.

Mesabi Range Community and Technical College
Mesabi Range Community and Technical College is 60 miles north of Duluth in Virginia, a small but vibrant north woods town. It is part of the Quad Cities area of Minnesota which includes the towns of Eveleth, Gilbert and Mountain Iron. Mesabi Range Community and Technical College is a small school that offers Associate in Art degrees and technical/career programs in areas including business, education, criminology, sports science, geology, liberal arts, music and pre-medicine. Unlike many community colleges, Mesabi Range offers student housing.
