Flower Gardens In South Carolina

Whether you are a horticulturist or someone who simply enjoys the beauty of nature, botanical gardens provide you with the best of both worlds. South Carolina Botanical Garden


The South Carolina Botanical Garden is located on the campus of Clemson University. Miles of natural trails and streams make up the garden alongside the display gardens and natural landscapes that cover 295 acres of land. Over 400 varieties of camellias exist in The Garden along with an extensive number of native plants, magnolias, hollies and hydrangeas. Some of the gardens within The Garden include fern and bog gardens, a wildflower meadow and a butterfly garden. Also on-site is the Art Gallery and the Geology Museum. As of October 2001, the Art Gallery and The Garden are free of charge; The Garden is open every day from sunrise to sunset and The Art Gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Geology Museum is open on Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; adults pay $3.00 and children are charged $2.00 for entry unless they are under two years old. Children under two years of age are admitted into the Museum free of charge.

Riverbanks Botanical Garden


The Riverbanks Botanical Garden is located in Columbia, South Carolina and features an array of horticulture over 70 acres of land. This garden is named as one of the top 10 inspirational gardens by Horticulture Magazine and as one of the top 20 public gardens in America by Home and Garden Television (HGTV). Five themed gardens exist and contain over 4,200 native and exotic plant species. These themed gardens include the Bog Garden, the Dry Garden, the Old Rose Garden, the Shade Garden and the Walled Garden. The Walled Garden is the premier exhibit in The Garden and is a 34,000 square-foot garden that inspires design ideas for local backyards. Visitors to the Riverbanks Botanical Garden can visit the zoo by taking a free tram ride.

Brookgreen Gardens


Brookgreen Gardens is located in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina between Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Georgetown, South Carolina; this garden is a National Historic Landmark and has the only zoo on the Carolina coast that is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. The property consists of 9,200 acres of diversely mixed land; this land includes salt marsh, fresh tidal swamps, forested swamps and sandy ridges. Brookgreen Gardens has a number of display gardens which include the Muses Garden, the Center Garden, the Peace Garden Room for Children, the Sea Urchin Garden, Anne's Garden, Live Oak Alle, Old Kitchen, the Palmetto Garden and the Dogwood Garden.
