Located in the north of Fulton County, Alpharetta is one of the wealthiest cities in the state of Georgia. Presently, there is only one community college in Alpharetta, which serves its main purpose by providing residents with two-year associate degrees. However, there are two other community colleges near Alpharetta.
Georgia Perimeter College
Founded in 1964, Georgia Perimeter College (GPC) is the third largest community college in the University System of Georgia. It offers more than 40 associate degree programs in subject areas such as Geology, Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Health Information Administration, Radiologic Technology and Education. It also has three certificate programs: Fire Management, Library & Information Science, and Sign Language Interpreting. In addition to Alpharetta, GPC has campuses at Clarkston, Decatur, Dunwoody, Tucker and Covington--all within the metro Atlanta area.

DeKalb Technical College
DeKalb Technical College is approximately a 30-minute drive from Alpharetta, and is situated just down the street from the Clarkston campus of Georgia Perimeter College. DTC was established in 1961 and remains one of Georgia's oldest technical colleges. It offers three program types: Associate of Applied Science Degree, Diploma, and Technical Certificate of Credit. Included in the community college's 100-plus programs are Automotive Technology, Payroll Accounting, Visual Basic Programming, Electronics Technology, Opticianry, Drafting Technology, Construction and Paramedic Technology.

Gwinnett Technical College
Younger than both GPC and DTC--it was founded in 1984--Gwinnett Technical College is located in Lawrenceville, which is a 24-minute drive from Alpharetta. GTC offers over 45 associate degree, diploma and certificate programs, dispersed over 14 departments: Automotive; Arts & Sciences; Business & Finance; Computer Science; Construction; Cosmetology; Culinary and Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism; Education; Health Sciences; Horticulture; Machine Tool and Welding; Public Safety & Service; Veterinary Technology; and Visual Arts, Fashion & Design. GTC also offers continuing education courses for people who want to complete educational workshops, seminars and adult education courses as a prelude to entering a college program.
