Concordia University at St. Paul
Concordia University, in St. Paul, is one of ten liberal arts universities owned and operated by the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. The university is located in the midway district of the Twin Cities area of Minneapolis-St.Paul. Secondary education programs vary according to the subject in which the teacher is seeking licensure. Some of the secondary education programs are intended for those planning to teach grades 5 through 12. These include literature and communication arts, math and social studies. In the areas of life science and chemistry, the program is intended for those teaching grades 9 through 12, although there is additional curriculum available for those who want to add grades 5 through 8 to their licensing credentials. For those planning to teach visual arts, music, English as a second language or special education, degree and certification programs are for the grades K through 12, providing the added dimension of elementary education to the certification credentials.

Minnesota State University--Moorhead
Minnesota State University in Moorhead (USUM) is part of the statewide university system that includes all public four-year colleges, except for the University of Minnesota. USUM enrolls approximately 7,500 students annually with a student to faculty ratio of 23 to 1. Secondary education in the areas of mathematics, social studies and communications arts and literature is designed for students wanting to teach grades 5-12. In the area of science, general science for grades 5 through 8 is available as is life science, earth science, chemistry and physics for grades 9 through 12. Art, education, music and health are taught with a curriculum designed to train teachers for K-12. Teaching English as a second language is another option as an add-on licensure program. Foreign language teaching curriculum is designed for all age ranges PK-12.

Also a part of the statewide university system, Minnesota State University in Mankato offers the bachelor of science degree through its college of education. The university enrolls over 14,500 students on an annual basis with a student to faculty ratio of 23:1. Unique to the Mankato campus program in secondary education is its program in business education for grades 5 through 12. Other programs offered for grades 5-12 include communication arts and literature, family consumer science, health science, math, chemistry, life science, physics, earth science and social studies. The university also offers a graduate level teacher licensure program with the master of science in teaching and learning.
