Yellowstone Snowcoach Tours Of Old Faithful In Wyoming

Established in 1872, Yellowstone National Park stretches through parts of Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming.

Old Faithful has long been one of Yellowstone National Park's most popular features, a cone-shaped thermal geyser that launches water hundreds of feet into the air every hour. Even though many of Yellowstone's roads close during the winter months, snowcoach tours offer a winter visitors a way to enjoy Old Faithful and the park's many other geysers and hot springs, as well as its rich diversity of wildlife and scenery.

Features

Snowcoaches provide space, comfort and warmth for winter travelers, with some even featuring leather seats and handlebar warmers. Snowcoach guides are highly knowledgeable about Yellowstone's history, geology and wildlife, and they often stop for sightseeing and photos.

Highlights

Snowcoach tours may begin with Old Faithful or may schedule a lunch stop near the famous geyser. Other snowcoach excursions, including ones provided by Xanterra Parks and Resorts, may offer a day trip from Old Faithful to the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone.

Options

More than 12 snowcoach operators offer tours of Yellowstone and Old Faithful during the winter months at the park's North, South and West Entrances. Snowcoach tour providers include ones that serve all three entrances and ones that offer multiday vacation packages.

Schedule

Yellowstone's Northeast Entrance road remains plowed and open to visitors all year. Depending on weather and snow conditions between mid-December and mid-March, however, many of the other roads in the park are closed to all but snowcoaches and snowmobiles.

Considerations

Only commercial snowcoaches with permits are allowed in Yellowstone during the winter months, and the park maintains a list of approved service providers. Yellowstone also sets a limit as to how many snowcoaches may enter the park during a given day.
