Plan A Vacation To The Grand Canyon & Redwood Forest

The Grand Canyon is a breathtaking scenic destination.

When you think of traditional sightseeing in the US, visiting the Grand Canyon is usually high on the list. The popularity of the redwood forest in Redwood National Park in California also endures, highlighting America's diverse natural beauty. Visiting both these national treasures is likely to make your vacation enjoyable and memorable. Whether you're traveling alone or with friends or family members, you can easily enhance your vacation across America. Just plan ahead and remember some basic travel tips.

Instructions

1. Consider your time frame. Decide during which season you'd prefer to visit these attractions.

2. Use road maps to find the best route from your starting destination.

Decide on your transportation. Fly to each destination if you're crunched for time. Book flights to Phoenix, Arizona when visiting the Grand Canyon and to San Francisco or Crescent City when visiting the redwood forest. Set aside sufficient time if you prefer to travel by car. Decide how many people in your group will drive and how many hours per day you're willing to drive.

3. Plan lodging and accommodations. Find hotels in communities surrounding Redwood National Park. Book a room at a variety of on-site lodging options when visiting the Grand Canyon. Reserve campsites at both the Grand Canyon and Redwood National Park if you like.

4. Don't get stuck without your hiking boots.

Pack appropriate clothing and supplies. Plan for the activities you expect to enjoy the most. Pack extra supplies, even if you aren't planning on many outdoor activities. Bring hiking boots, a water supply, outfits for different weather conditions, a first aid kit, film or memory cards for cameras and an extra set of car keys.

5. Plan each day. Decide when to visit museums, take a scenic drive or try the hiking trails. Research what you'd like to do beforehand and plan your days to enjoy the full experience. Leave room for spontaneity as well.

6. Look up rules and regulations before you visit the national parks. Help preserve the beauty and accessibility of these destinations. Follow safety regulations and plan ahead to obtain any necessary permits, such as the overnight hiking permit required at the Grand Canyon.
