Timelines have many uses. They can be used to illustrate schoolwork, especially historical or geological themes. They also work well as countdowns to awaited events. A child can make a timeline illustrating all the preparation needed for a holiday or vacation, including little check boxes next to each item as it is completed. When making timelines, the bigger and more illustrated the better. While adult supervision may be required, elementary age kids are capable of doing all the work themselves.
Instructions
1. Draw a straight line down the center of your poster board. The line should go across the widest part of the poster board.
2. Mark the center of the line. Make other small marks at equal distances to mark the passage of time, whether it be days, years, centuries or geologic eras.
3. Write the corresponding event under each line marked. You can write above or below the center dividing line.
4. Draw or cut out pictures that illustrate each event your timeline represents. Glue each picture near the event it corresponds with on your timeline.
