Colleges In Delaware County Pennsylvania

Delaware County is the fifth-largest county in Pennsylvania, and is located adjacent to and west of the state's largest city, Philadelphia. As of January 2011, Delaware County is home to four colleges.

Cabrini College

Cabrini College was founded in 1957 in Radnor Township by the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Originally a school located in an orphanage, Cabrini has since grown into a full-fledged Roman Catholic institution of higher learning. Its bachelor's degrees are spread out in its 18 academic departments with choices such as human resources management, Italian, information systems and pre-occupational therapy. The college also offers master's degrees in education and organizational leadership. As of January 2011, Cabrini College enrolls around 1,700 undergraduate students and 1,400 graduate students.

Delaware County Community College

Delaware County Community College, a two-year institution, was founded in 1967 to specifically fulfill the educational needs of residents in Delaware and Chester counties. It has three campuses, two of which are in Delaware County. At DCCC, students can enroll in certificate and associate degree programs; the latter is split into terminal career degrees and credit-transferable transfer degrees. Subject areas include behavioral science, emergency management and planning, machine tool technology and perioperative nursing. The community college has over 10,000 students as of January 2011.

Haverford College

Haverford College focuses entirely on educating undergraduates. Founded in 1833 by a group of New York and Philadelphia Quakers, it is a private liberal arts college that has about 1,100 students as of January 2011. It has 27 academic departments that include subject areas such as astronomy, geology, German, sociology and East Asian studies.

Swarthmore College

Swarthmore Collge shares many traits with Haverford. It is a private liberal arts college that was founded by Quakers (in 1864). It awards solely bachelor's degrees, and it has roughly the same number of students. At Swarthmore -- named after the borough where it is located -- students can study subject areas such as cognitive science, gender and sexuality studies, modern languages and literatures and theater.
