Alaska's Katmai National Park is home to a wide range of natural beauty, including Trident Volcano, an active volcano in the the Aleutian volcanic chain.
Details
Trident Volcano is approximately 1,864 meters (6,115 feet) in elevation. Its name comes from the three peaks that were visible prior to 1953.
Activity
Since 1913, Trident Volcano has erupted 15 times. By 1953, a fourth cone had been added to the mountain's famous trio of cones. The most recent eruption was in 1974.
Volcanic Neighbors
The Katmai Volcano shares a mountain ridge with the Trident Volcano complex. The complex is a location about 3 to 5 km southeast of Novarupta Volcano.
Lava Domes
Trident Volcano has many lava domes upon its flank. On the far west, the domes include Falling Mountain and Mount Cerberus.
Crater Dimension
The current summit crater, after the last eruption in 1974, is approximately 350 meters (1,148 feet) wide.
