Use Gale software to produce problem-solving geological models.
With Gale coding software, you can create two-dimensional and three-dimensional computer models to help solve problems related to plate tectonics and the movement of the Earth's crust. Gale is free, open source software, so you won't need to buy a license to use the program. After downloading and installing Gale on your computer, launch the program with the computer's Command Prompt tool.
Instructions
1. Launch your Web browser. Go to the Gale software download page at Geodynamics.org.
2. Click on the link to the latest release of Gale in the Binaries section.
3. Click the "Save" or "Save As" button in the download confirmation dialog box. Gale's executable files and program files are compressed in a ZIP archive file.
4. Go to the computer folder that contains the downloaded Gale ZIP file. On most PCs this is the "Downloads" library folder.
5. Right-click the ZIP file and then select "Extract All" from the context menu. Windows unpacks the contents of the ZIP file into a new folder with the same name as the downloaded file.
6. Click "Start," select "All Programs," "Accessories" and then "Command Prompt" to open the Command Prompt utility.
7. Type "Gale-2_0_0.exe input/cookbook/yielding.json" into the prompt and then press the "Enter" key on your computer's keyboard to launch the program.
