Natural disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, winter storms, fire or flooding can disrupt water and electrical power services or even necessitate evacuation. You and your family need to maintain an emergency mobilization kit in case an emergency arises.
Description
An emergency mobilization kit should provide necessities for use while at home and in the event of evacuation. Keep a receptacle, such as a covered trash canister, backpack or duffel bag, filled with supplies in an area where it can be grabbed quickly.
Features
An emergency mobilization kit should have a minimum of three days worth of non-perishable food, at least one gallon of water per person per day and a manual can opener. Other items should include a first aid kit, a flashlight with extra batteries, a radio and a cell phone with a charger. You'll also need clothes, bedding and sanitation supplies.
Considerations
A disaster can strike no matter where you are. Maintain supplies not only in your home, but also in your car and at your place of employment. If you have children, it's a good idea to ask schools about their emergency preparedness plans.
