Oklahoma is home to the Turner Falls waterfall.
Turner Falls is the largest waterfall in Oklahoma. This popular tourist attraction is located in Turner Falls Park, which is in the Arbuckle Mountains. The park is named after Mazeppa Thomas Turner, who discovered the large waterfall on his property in 1878. The city of Davis, Oklahoma, is just minutes from the falls, and many visitors dine or shop in town after spending the day out in nature at Turner Falls Park.
Swimming
No lifeguard is on duty in Turner Falls swimming areas.
At the base of the 77-foot waterfall, a large natural pool of fresh water is open for public swimming. In addition, two other natural swimming pools are located in Turner Falls Park. These pools are fed by nearby streams and underground water sources. No permit or special permission is required to swim; however, no lifeguard is on duty.
Hiking
Thirty miles of hiking trails exist at Turner Falls.
Turner Falls Park is part of the Chickasaw National Recreation Area, which offers a total of over 30 miles of maintained trails. One of the most popular hikes for Turner Falls visitors is the Travertine Creek Trail, which is a 1.5 mile hike that is appropriate for all ages and experience levels. The trail follows the path of Travertine Creek, with plenty of scenic landscapes and picnic benches for rest breaks along the way. The hike concludes at the base of the Little Niagara Waterfall. Other frequented trails include: Antelope and Buffalo Springs Trail, Prairie Loop Trail, and Dry Creek Loop Trail.
Camping
RV and camping sites are available at Turner Falls.
Over 500 camping sites are available at Turner Falls Park; 37 of these sites are specifically designated for RVs. RV sites are equipped with water and electricity; a common dump station is in the vicinity. Restrooms and showers are interspersed throughout campgrounds, and many of the camping sites are equipped with picnic tables and grills. No reservations are accepted; all sites are first-come, first-served.
Caving
Many natural caves are open for exploration in Turner Falls Park. The most frequented of these is Turner Fall's Outlaw Cave, which offers interesting geological formations to those willing to brave the claustrophobic interior, where low cave ceilings and tight spaces are the norm. While numerous caves can be found around Turner Falls, few of these are officially named. Explore them at your own risk.
