Caloric gas range oven wont light

Caloric Gas Range - Oven Won't Light

My oven won't light! One...What can I check before getting a repairman involved? Two... If I can't fix the problem is it worth getting fixed by a professional or should I just get a new stove? Range probably cost $350 - $400, repair will probably run around $140. Thanks Hi:MannyA You didn't provide much information to work with here. Does the oven have a pilot or electric ignition? How long has this condition been known? Did it just happen? Best suggestion I can offer you, at this time, is to first check the control panel and be sure all controls are set to manual. Replacing the entire stove because the oven doesn't work, is a choice only you can make. Good Luck, TomBartco Thanks for your response... the oven has an electronic ignition. I will check the control panel, however, I turn the oven on and there is no sound or smell of gas being released. Doe s this provide a hint of some sort? Hi:MannyA With an electronic ignition oven that has a glow coil that fails to glow, that's correct, you won't hear nor smell any gas. It's then working as designed with the condition you have with yours. If the check of the control panel finds all controls set to manual, the stove has electric power to it and the coil fails to glow, you can check the fuse. Plug out the power cord from the wall plug first, then locate and test that fuse. If it is burned out, etc. replace it with an exact duplicate. Buy this part from the local appliance store. If the fuse is okay, the glow coil most likely will need to be replaced. Check the archives in this forum for instructions, tips and hints for replacing this item posted in replies to others with this same oven problem.
