Science Magazines For Kids

Kids' science magazines get children interested in the natural world with easy-to-understand articles, games and experiments they can do at home. Kids' publications include magazines to nature, geology, chemistry and biology. Make sure you choose an age-appropriate magazine your child can read easily, complete with activities that offer just the right level of challenge.

Ages 7 and Under

Parents eager to get their youngest children engaged with nature can subscribe to "Wild Animal Baby," a publication from the National Wildlife Federation. This magazine is geared to children between 3 and 7 years old, with bright, colorful picture stories and photographs. "Click" also has many pictures, stories and illustrations, but also answers questions such as, "What do animals eat?" "Your Big Backyard" focuses on activities like games, crafts and recipes, in addition to pictures and stories geared to children who are just learning to read.

Magazines in this group are geared to children who are beginning to discover the joy of reading on their own. "Ranger Rick," published by the National Wildlife Federation, has great nature photos and articles to get kids interested in outdoor exploring. "National Geographic Kids" has a broader focus; in addition to nature, there are also stories and activities that relate to technology, the environment, science, culture and current events. Each issue of "Kids Discover" focuses on a single theme, and features stunning photography and informative articles. "Know: The Science Magazine for Curious Kids" covers topics in science, math and nature. It features puzzles, projects and experiments and brain teasers to get kids learning. "Ask," a magazine published by the group behind "Click," explains science and nature one question at a time.
