Continuing Education Courses In Louisiana

Louisiana has many continuing education options.


Numerous academic institutions offer continuing education courses in Louisiana. Continuing education, also referred to as distance learning or adult education, is a way for busy non-traditional students, or students who are geographically isolated, to advance their learning. Louisiana's colleges and universities offer continuing education courses through a campus extension department or division. Schools often deliver courses through a variety of mediums, such as the Internet, and offer traditional classroom courses at remote campuses or proxy sites.


Baton Rouge Community College


Baton Rouge Community College offers courses through its continuing education division. The school delivers courses through its On-line Instruction Center or in collaboration with Gatlin Education Services, a web-based customized training provider. The college provides courses in allied health and health care, accounting and business, construction management, solar panel design and installation, first aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER), art design, education, environmental, hospitality and food services, human resources, information technology and web design, and law enforcement. Baton Rouge Community College also offers continuing education courses for student who are 50 years or older, including computer basics, photography and jewelry making. Students can take some courses as credit toward a certificate or degree or for no credit if they are not striving for a grade.

Louisiana Delta Community College


Louisiana Delta Community College in Monroe offers more than 5,000 continuing education courses to non-traditional students. Courses are all online through the school's eLearning instruction center and Gatlin Education Services. The college has courses in which students can earn a certificate in a number of fields such as business, criminal justice and medical, or courses through the eLearning Center that students can apply toward an associate or bachelor's degree in a variety of careers. Louisiana Delta Community College also features what it refers to as "personal enrichment courses." These continuing education courses help students improve their knowledge in a particular field or hobby. Courses include writing, music, gardening design, psychic training and nutrition.

University of New Orleans


The University of New Orleans has a continuing education division referred to as the Distance Education center. The school delivers courses by compressed video to remote classroom sites at the Lakefront and Avondale campuses, the Jefferson Center in Metairie and at NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans. Remote courses include business administration, education, anthropology, geology, engineering management, psychology, sociology and mathematics. The university's virtual campus also offers continuing education courses delivered through an Internet blackboard. Internet courses include English, education, management, history, music, mathematics, psychology and philosophy fields.

Louisiana State University


Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge has continuing education courses for students seeking college credits toward a degree or certificate, or to simply enhance their personal or professional development. The university offers courses in business, computer and information technology, health care, architecture and engineering, environmental management and paralegal. The continuing education outreach programs are taught through correspondence, and course materials are delivered by priority mail. Students have nine months to complete courses, and must take exams, if applicable, on campus or a university-approved proctor.
