Detached carport

Detached Carport

I am looking for plans for a 20' x 20' detached carport - i.e., columns or posts with a peaked roof - all sides open. Ideas or suggestions where I should look would be greatly appreciated. Thanks -Chris Chris; You'll probably find that your local lumberyard can help you with this. I don't mean the big box stores either, but rather the places that still have a coffee-pot on the counter. Unless you tell people here where you live, all we can offer are links. Jack, Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try the local real lumber yard. I live just outside Asheville, NC. I've searched every book source I can find and nothing that has stand-alone carport -- You know, a garage without walls. Actually I know how I want it to look. How do I size beams for the proper roof loading. I've checked local, state and national building codes, but they are a bit complicated. Any suggestions find the answer to size of side beams? I can't say enough about the Carolina's, been there, loved it. Sounds like what your planning to build, simply put, is a down sized pole-barn. As soon as I typed that, I Googled and found this. http://www.bucklake.leon.k12.fl.us/h.../polebarn.html Tell me if I'm right. Jack Chris, You've got weather in the 50's?! Right about now if we had that temp, I'd be playing golf! Jack, You are right. What I am going to build is a Pole Barn. The pictures of the Buck Lake structure will help me finish my design. Now I just have to verify the beam sizes - but, it looks to me like they used double 2x12's. What do you think? As for golf - I wish I could but this year I must finsish the house our builder couldn't. Maybe next year. Thanks again. Chris To me, they appear to be 10 by 10 pressure treated. Personally, I would contact the local building dept. and chat with the local inspector. Take your design with you, even if its just a sketch, after all you have to satisfy his criteria as well! After busting our butts last summer, and hoping to survive this never ending winter, my wife and I declared that we will both golf more this summer. About 4 or 5 rounds last summer, all for charities. 26 degrees with waist high white stuff on the lawn here. Good luck, stay in touch. Jack Thanks again. BTW, where's here? With waist-hi white stuff in March, when do you get to golf - July? Chris Long delay, too much work! here is Caledon, 45 minutes north of Toronto. Finally started to warm up 2 days ago, but snowed today. unususal. However, how are the plans coming?
