Garage Door Opener opens on its own
In the past 1.5 weeks, I started having an issue with my Liftmaster garage door opener. It has worked perfectly for 8 years, until now...now it decides to open on its own after it fully closes and I am not at home. It doesn't do it every time, so I am not quite sure what is going on. I went through the adjustment (up/down force/travel) checks like the manual said to do, and it seemed to work fine for one day, but it opened again while I was at work yesterday. The button on the wall had also started to not working all of the time. I checked the wiring on the back of the wall button, and now it works fine. The sensors on the floor are lined up as they should be. Now I have noticed that the orange light on the back of the unit has started blicking 5 times, which indicates something's going on with the RPM sensor. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. First I would account for all the remotes. Make sure there is not a spare one somewhere that is getting bumped. Also check the wall mounted button to make sure it moves freely and is returning properly to it's non pressed (back out) position. The plastic could have gotten stiff or dirt or insects may have gotten into it. 20 years ago I had trouble with one that would go off when it got cold. Apparently the plastic shrunk with the cold and was depressing the button. Hard to believe but replacing the wall switch took care of it. Have you had any thunderstorms or other electrical surges/spikes that you know of. It's possible the control board has been damaged. It's a long shot but you could unplug the opener for a minute, power it back up and re-pair all remotes with the opener. dis-connect the wall mounted push button. do this at the motor head. you could have a staple pinching the wire someplace.
