Close Stuck Blinds

Manually lower stuck blinds.

Blinds are useful for both blocking out bright sunlight as well as creating a little privacy for the home. However, if the blinds are stuck in the open position, and thus unusable, it can be very annoying. Blinds get stuck for a variety of reasons, but in many cases you can manually close stuck blinds using some workaround techniques. The workarounds may not permanently fix the problem, but they will at least provide some privacy.

Instructions

1. Grasp the pull cord and position it at a 45-degree angle with the top of the blinds. Pull gently on the cord to see if this releases the blinds into a closed position. If not, raise the cord higher until it is almost parallel with the top rail to see if this unlocks the blinds.

2. Place a step ladder next to the window, if needed, so that you can reach the very top of the blinds. Locate the small, square hole from where the cord emerges, insert a small flat-head screwdriver into the hole with one hand. Simultaneously pull the cord to the side with the other hand to release and close the blinds.

3. Repair slats that are stuck open by grasping the wand with one hand, even though the wand doesn't work. Locate the vertical strings that run down the back of the blinds, thus holding them together. Simultaneously turn the the wand counterclockwise while you pull down on the string on the back of the blinds. You may need another person to assist with this.

Tips Warnings

If these steps do not close the blinds, they require professional repair or replacement.
