Disassemble And Repair A Delta Monitor Faucet With Temperature Control

Some Delta single-handle faucets come with a temperature control or anti-scald feature. These faucets operate with a cartridge assembly regulating the flow of water through the faucet. The rubber seals on the cartridge will wear out over time, causing the faucet to leak or become difficult to turn off completely. In that case, you'll need to replace the cartridge. You might have to disassemble a Delta Monitor faucet if the temperature of the water coming from the faucet is generally too cold or too hot.

Instructions

1. Turn off the water to the sink by shutting off the main water valve to the house. Turn on another faucet to bleed any water left in the pipes and to make sure the water is entirely shut off.

2. Remove the small screw in the base of the handle using an Allen wrench. Pull the handle off the assembly and pull off the chrome sleeve sitting underneath it.

3. Remove the nut in the middle of the assembly with a pair of tongue-and-groove pliers. Pull the faucet's cartridge straight out of the assembly.

4. Slide the new cartridge into the water pipe, lining up the notches in the cartridge with the notches in the pipe assembly. Turn the gears on the end of the cartridge clockwise to turn the water temperature down, or counterclockwise to turn the temperature up.

5. Tighten the bolt on the middle of the assembly using tongue-and-groove pliers, and slide the chrome sleeve and handle back into place. Tighten the screw at the base of the handle using the Allen wrench.
