Signs Of Closet Alcoholism

Signs of Closet Alcoholism

A closet alcoholic is one who hides his drinking habit by doing it in private. Even though closet alcoholics take great measures not to get caught, there are several telltale signs that give them away.

Hiding

A closet alcoholic may keep alcohol in unlikely places, such as the bathroom, garage or under the bed.

Lying

A string of inconsistent lies may be the sign of someone who is trying to cover up her closet drinking habit. Oftentimes, stories she tells don't match up.

Disappearing

A closet alcoholic may disappear for periods of time with no explanation. Even loved ones and friends don't know where they have gone.

Anxiety

A closet drinker may become anxious for seemingly no reason at all. It may have been awhile since he was able to sneak away for a drink, and, as a result, he may show signs of anxiousness and irritability.

Lateness

Someone who is a closet alcoholic may show a chronic pattern of arriving to places, such as work, late, and finding excuses to leave early.
